On March 18, the second session of the 2025 “Frontier Medicine West China Forum” (the 72nd session in total) and the eighth session of the “Huafeng Initiative” for scientific and technological achievements were held in the Multi-Functional Hall of Houde Building. Professor Dirk Michael Elston, editor of the Journals of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), an authoritative international journal in the field of dermatology, was invited to give a special academic report. More than 500 people, including Executive Vice President Liu Lunxu, scientific researchers from various clinical departments and research institutes (labs), full-time postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students, attended this event.
Professor Elston focused on two core topics: “Strategies for Rapid Acceptance of Medical Research Papers” and “Design and Implementation of High-Quality Clinical Research.” Drawing on his extensive experience as an editor of top-tier journals, he provided a systematic and in-depth explanation. In the section on paper publication, Professor Elston analyzed the review process and acceptance criteria of top journals from the perspective of an editor. He emphasized that the innovation, methodological rigor, and clinical value of a paper are the key factors determining its fate. He also shared practical tips for increasing the acceptance rate of papers, including how to write a cover letter that attracts the editor’s attention and how to respond to reviewers’ comments. In the clinical research section, Professor Elston used specific cases to systematically explain the key points of high-quality clinical research, providing feasible guidance for clinicians to conduct high-level research. Participants exchanged views with Professor Elston on practical problems they encountered in their scientific research.
