On June 30, the opening ceremony of the
2025 International Summer Camp (2025 ISC) of West China School of Medicine
(WCSM) was held in the Multi-Function Hall of Houde Building. Representatives
from Sichuan University and West China Hospital, as well as 34 international
students from 11 overseas universities in countries such as Russia, Turkey,
Italy, Spain, and Singapore, and 49 Chinese and foreign students from WCSM
attended the opening ceremony.
Party Secretary Cheng Yongzhong of West
China School of Medicine and West China Hospital, Sichuan University extended a
warm welcome to the experts and students who had come from afar. After
reviewing the long history of West China Medicine and introducing the main
content of the International Summer Camp, Party Secretary Cheng encouraged all
campers to cherish this rare opportunity for international exchange, to
actively participate and interact deeply, to experience the profound academic
atmosphere and cultural heritage of West China, and to also take the chance to
step out of the campus and appreciate the unique charm of the city of Chengdu;
he wished the camp members to gain knowledge, build friendships, and leave
unforgettable memories through their exchanges.
Professor Shweta Gupta, the interim
director of the Department of Hematology and Oncology at John H. Stroger Jr.
Hospital in Chicago and representative of the foreign experts, highly praised
the construction and achievements of WCSM's international education platform in
her speech, and shared her profound experiences of participating in teaching
for several consecutive years. She encouraged the students to make full use of
this exchange opportunity, to express themselves actively, to ask questions
boldly, to stimulate innovative thinking, and to achieve self-growth.
Subsequently, ten foreign experts took the
stage together to briefly greet everyone and express their expectations and
blessings. Deputy Director Yang Xiaomin and Deputy Director Yuan Wen, on behalf
of Sichuan University, presented the camp-specific uniforms to the foreign
experts.
Eleven Chinese and foreign student
representatives expressed their hope to understand each other, learn from each
other, and grow together on this platform where diverse cultures intersect. Party
Secretary Cheng Yongzhong handed the camp flag to the camp member
representatives, Executive Vice Dean Wang Kunjie and Deputy Party Secretary
Shen Wenwu presented the camp uniforms to the student representatives, and the
2025 ISC was officially launched.
As one of the series of activities of
Sichuan University's "International Course Week," the 2025 ISC has
been successfully held for thirteen sessions. This session has set a new record
in the number of participating countries, partner universities, and overseas
students. In the coming two weeks, the camp members will jointly participate in
clinical skills competitions, simulated international academic conferences, and
a variety of rich activities such as cultural visits and clinical internships.
