Recently, at the 75th Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC.26)—the world's largest and most prestigious academic conference in the field of cardiovascular medicine—the Integrated Whole Life Cycle Accuracy Valvular Heart Disease Epidemiology Cohort (iWAVE) series, led by Prof. Wu Zhong from the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, in collaboration with the Outpatient Department (Internet Hospital Management Office) and the Whole-Course and Comorbidity Management Center, was successfully selected. The findings on valvular heart disease from West China Hospital were presented through three oral presentations and two posters.

With the aging population, patients with valvular heart disease often present with complex comorbidities. The traditional "single disease, surgery-oriented" model faces challenges in addressing long-term prognosis and comprehensive management. To tackle this clinical difficulty, the iWAVE cohort was established. The core value of this research lies in breaking the traditional perioperative single perspective, extending the management dimension to preoperative precise risk assessment, intraoperative individualized intervention, and postoperative lifelong follow-up throughout the entire life cycle. It systematically establishes a standardized management paradigm for valvular heart disease combined with multidisciplinary comorbidities, achieving a scientific and refined clinical pathway.
