WCH experts invited to attend and speak at of the American Epilepsy Society Annual Meeting

Recently, the annual meeting of the American Epilepsy Society (AES) was held in Atlanta, USA. The conference brought together thousands of experts and scholars from around the world and featured over 1,500 cutting-edge research posters. Professor Zhou Dong, Professor Chen Lei, and Associate Professor Xiong Weixi from the Neurology Department of West China Hospital were invited to attend and deliver special reports.

The conference focused on the latest advancements in epilepsy and related disorders, covering key topics such as basic research, clinical diagnosis and treatment, and multidisciplinary collaboration. In the session on "Women with Epilepsy and Pregnancy Outcomes," Professor Chen Lei presented the latest data from China's registry study on pregnancy outcomes in women with epilepsy, which attracted widespread attention and sparked lively discussions among the participating experts.

During the special symposium on "Epilepsy Care Disparities Between China and the United States and Strategies for Addressing Them," Professor Zhou Dong co-chaired the session with Professor Robert Edward Hogan from Washington University in St. Louis, USA. In his opening report, Professor Zhou Dong systematically elaborated on China's action plan in response to the World Health Organization's " The Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders 2022–2031 (IGAP) " and the achievements of China's rural epilepsy prevention and management project. Associate Professor Xiong Weixi introduced the development and implementation of China's epilepsy healthcare quality control system. Through case sharing and strategic exchanges, experts from both China and the United States explored feasible pathways to enhance the equity and accessibility of global epilepsy treatment based on standardized guidelines and collaborative models.

During the conference, the team also presented seven research posters on epilepsy and seizure disorders.
