From
December 9th to 17th, 2024, a delegation led by President Wang
Jinsong of Sichuan University (SCU) visited Australia and Chile, with President
Luo Fengming of West China Hospital (WCH) as a member. The delegation held
in-depth discussions with renowned universities and institutions, including the
University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of Western Australia in
Australia, and the University of Chile, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
and its affiliated UC Christus Hospital. They reached a consensus on
deepening cooperation, expanding collaboration areas, enhancing faculty and
student exchange, promoting joint talent cultivation, and strengthening joint
scientific research.
During
the visit to the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and UC Christus
Hospital, President Luo Fengming, along with Professor Felipe Heusser, Dean of
the Medical School, and Professor Cristián de la Fuente Díaz, CEO of UC
Christus Hospital, reached a cooperation intention in areas such as faculty and
student exchange, transplantation, and critical care disciplines.
At
the University of Western Australia, President Luo Fengming and Professor Jeff
Keelan, Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences, signed a memorandum of
cooperation. The two sides will collaborate in joint doctoral cultivation,
short-term student training, and joint scientific research projects.
Additionally, President Luo Fengming exchanged views with our hospital's
non-full-time distinguished expert, Professor Barry Marshall, the 2005 Nobel
Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, reviewed the achievements of their
decade-long cooperation, and visited the West China-Marshall Infectious
Diseases Center (Western Australia Center), discussing further cooperation in
Helicobacter pylori research.
The
Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, established in 1880, ranks 93rd
globally, 2nd in Latin America, and 1st in Chile in the 2025 QS World
University Rankings. Its Medical School, founded in 1929, includes departments
of medicine, dentistry, nursing, health sciences, and public health, and is
ranked 88th globally in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject
(Medicine). UC Christus Hospital is ranked 2nd in Chile in the 2024 Newsweek
"World's Best Hospitals" list. The University of Western Australia,
founded in 1911, is ranked 77th in the 2025 QS World University Rankings and
101-150 in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities; its clinical
medicine specialty is ranked 34th in the 2024 World's First-Class Subject
Rankings.
