Integrative Management

Receiving real-time and highly efficient consultation from the Department of Operation Management of West China Hospital, our Department Management Team consists of Department Directors, Subspecialty Leaders, Chief Technicians, Chief Engineer, Senior Nursing Officer, Senior Support Officer, part-time and full-time secretaries. This guarantees that every major decision is made after data analysis and proper discussion. Every year our team invites the national-class professional advisors for management training with advanced management theories, tools and skills. The current Director of the Radiology Department is Professor Bin Song, M.D., an abdominal radiology expert , who has extensive experience in hospital and department management.

Specialty Expertise

Our experienced radiologists with specialty trainings interpret all examinations from traditional radiography, fluoroscopy, CT to MRI, covering neuroradiology, thoracic imaging, cardiovascular imaging, breast imaging, abdominal imaging, musculoskeletal imaging and interventional radiology. Enjoying high reputation, our specialists hold various professional positions, including as the leaders and members of the national and provincial academic societies, the first radiologist to win the ‘China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists’, the winner of ‘China Medical Board Distinguished Professorship Award’, the winner of ‘Wu Jieping-Paul Janssen Medical & Pharmaceutical Award’, the Academic and Technology Leaders of Sichuan Province. Most of them are editors or were invited to be editors, reviewers of many well-known international and domestic academic journals of medical imaging.

Imaging Technology

We provide service in radiological diagnosis& therapy, health screening, medical education, specialty training, and research with advanced technology using multiple state-of-the-art radiologic facilities. Supported by our Image-guided Therapy Planning Center (ITPC) and Out-department Imaging Technology Service Team, multiple advanced post-processing techniques meet the various needs for preoperative planning, intraoperative monitor and postoperative evaluation. Under the Radiologist-Technologist Union Working Mode, our expert radiologists work closely with highly specialized technologists, nurses and engineers to provide personalized imaging with lower radiate dose for patients. Collaborating with manufacturers in research, development and optimization, we make efforts to improve safety, reliability and comfort of imaging. Our main imaging facilities include as below: 13 MRI scanners (one 7T, five 3T, seven 1.5T scanners), 15 CT scanners (three DSCT, two 256-MDCT, one 128-MDCT, two 80-MDCT five 64-MDCT, one 16-MDCT, one portable bed side scanners), 15 DSA systems including one Hybrid Operating Room, 32 DR systems including nine Portable Bedside Systems, 13 X-ray machines with digital non flat Technology and 130 PACS Diagnostic Workstations.

Education and Training Center

As the National Key Academic Discipline by Ministry of Education, we offer classes in radiology and other related topics, multidisciplinary seminars & certificated conferences, and continuing medical education for medical students, interns, postgraduates, residents, postdoctoral trainees, visiting scholars, radiologists, technicians and nurses. Our responsible faculty is committed to promoting imaging education in editing national textbooks, reforming teaching courses and improving practical skills. Correspondingly, they were awarded in the competitions of teaching/teaching reforming of China, Sichuan University, West China Medical Collage and West China Hospital, including the Grand Prize of National Higher Educational Teaching Achievement, the 1st Prize of Excellent Educational Teaching Achievement of Sichuan Province.

Research Foundation

We conduct a broad array of research in development and application of diagnostic radiology. Furthermore, we have established two functional & metabolic imaging research platforms - Huaxi Magnetic Resonance Research Center (HMRRC) and Molecular Imaging Research Laboratory, to support multi-disciplinary research. Since 2009, our research funding and program support have exceeded RMB 358 million Yuan that reflects our high research goals and interests, e.g. Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 973 and 863 high-tech project grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Program for Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Team in University by Ministry of Education, other grants from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health, provincial funding, and cooperation funding from enterprises. Over the last ten years, the department has published more than 904 academic articles and 256 publications across high Impact Factors Journals such as, New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, American Journal of Psychiatry, Radiology, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Biomaterials, Neuroimaging and American Journal of Roentgenology.
