Inauguration of West China Hospital-Life University Chiropractic Cooperation Center: a milestone in advancing chiropractic medicine in China

On the morning of March 20, 2024, the West China Hospital - Life University Chiropractic Cooperation Center was inaugurated at the Rehabilitation Medicine Center of West China Hospital (WCH), aiming to promote exchange and collaboration between the two parties and enhance the level of chiropractic medicine at West China Hospital. Professor John Downes, Vice President of Life University, Vice President Wu Hong of WCH, and the heads of the Rehabilitation Medicine Center attended the unveiling ceremony.

Vice President Wu Hong expressed in his speech the hope that the center would bring advanced concepts and techniques of chiropractic treatment to WCH, further elevate treatment standards, and promote the development of chiropractic medicine, a young discipline, in China. Vice President John Downes emphasized in his speech the 16 years of exchange and cooperation between WCH's Rehabilitation Medicine, hoping that the unveiling of the center would continue to leverage the leading role of West China Rehabilitation in the Chinese chiropractic profession.

Professor He Chengqi, director of the Rehabilitation Medicine Center, introduced the clinical application of chiropractic medicine at WCH, affirming its therapeutic effectiveness. He also proposed specific plans for deeper cooperation in medical treatment, education, and research, hoping to gradually implement these plans.

During the ceremony, Vice President Wu Hong and Vice President John Downes signed a memorandum of cooperation between West China Hospital of Sichuan University and Life University.

The West China Hospital - Life University Chiropractic Cooperation Center is the first chiropractic medicine center in public hospitals in China. It aims to introduce professional teaching resources, improve multidisciplinary treatment models, train more chiropractic medical talents, promote the clinical application of chiropractic medicine, and fill the gap in the field of chiropractic medicine in China. Professor He Chengqi and Professor John Downes will serve as consultants of the center, Professor Yang Lin as the director, Dr. Hou Yue as the executive director, and Associate Professor Jiang Junliang as the deputy director.
