The Urology Department reaches its milestone of 2,500 Da Vinci robotic surgeries

On Jan. 26, the Celebration of 2,500 Cases of Da Vinci Robotic Surgeries by the Urology Department of West China Hospital(WCH) & WCH’s First-phase Exocrine Surgery Training Course for Da Vinci Surgery College was successfully held. Since the first Da Vinci robotic surgery in 2015, WCH has conducted more than 2,500 of such cases, ranking among the best in China.

Professor Wei Qiang, Director of the Urology Department, has broken his personal record of 1,000 Da Vinci robot surgery cases. Professor Wei holds two leading techniques in Da Vinci robotic surgery, including the extraperitoneal pelvic lymph node dissection methods and the radical prostatectomy procedures with preserved pelvic floor structure. Therefore, he won the Outstanding Contribution Award of Da Vinci Robot Urology in China. The various sub-specialties of urology (tumor group, repair and reconstruction group, kidney transplantation group, and female urology group) are all implementing robotic surgeries. Professor Li Xiang and Professor Zhu Yuchun exceeded 500 cases of Da Vinci surgery respectively, and Professor Zeng Hao exceeded 100 cases.
