On August 19, the winners of the 12th Chinese Physician Prize was unveiled, in which 80 physicians across the state were listed, including Prof. Wang Wentao, director of WCH’s Hepatic Surgery. At the same time, he was selected as one of 10 Most Beautiful Doctors 2020 by the Publicity Department of the CPC, and the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China.

Prof. Wang Wentao is the director of WCH’s Hepatic Surgery, concurrently serves as the vice director of the Professional Board of the Hepatic Echinococcosis Physicians of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the designated director of the Echinococcosis Professional Committee of Sichuan Medical Association.

Hepatic echinococcosis, also known as “the Worms Cancer,” shows a very high prevalence rate across the Tibetan areas in Sichuan. Usually it is very difficult to cure through conventional operation. After extensive research, Prof. Wang Wentao had successfully used the technology of extracorporeal hepatectomy plus liver autotransplantation in the treatment of the late-stage echinococcosis. He completed nearly 100 operations for echinococcosis, and successfully saved quite a few of late-stage echinococcosis patients. Every year, he goes to the Tibetan areas to offer personal guidance to local physicians and conducts homogenous and standard training courses on prevention and treatment of echinococcosis. He also assisted local hospitals in building professional medical teams and cultivating medical talents, and helped to set up the echinococcosis treatment funds in favor of the poor patients. He has been selected as the monthly figure of November 2008 in the activities of the Chinese Good Doctors and Chinese Good Nurses.
