WCH experts give online lectures on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control for Chinese citizens in Egypt

On the afternoon of May 18, at the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, WCH experts gave a special lecture online at the 5G conference room of the Medical Technology Building on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control to the Chinese compatriots in Egypt. Counselor Chen Jian with the Overseas Chinese Office of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt hosted the event. Professor Luo Fengming, deputy party secretary of WCH, and experts from WCH’s Mental Health Center, Rehabilitation Medicine Department, Laboratory Medicine Department, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Department, Integrated TCM & Western Medicine Department and Hospital Infection Management Department attended the lecture.

According to the list of COVID-19-related issues concerned by Chinese in Egypt, the experts answered questions one by one from the aspects of psychological adjustment, care and support from families and friends, prevention of severe diseases, precautions for contact with patients with COVID-19. The biggest concern was the prevention and control of COVID-19 infection. Professor Zong Zhiyong believed that it is possible to effectively prevent mild diseases from turning into severe diseases by controlling basic diseases, avoiding excessive anxiety, ensuring sleep and using proper drugs; he also analyzed the infectivity and toxicity of COVID-19, as well as the incidence of secondary infection, and specifically answered the related questions such as vaccination and antibody detection, which attracted the most concerns of overseas Chinese.

Professor Luo Fengming suggested that overseas Chinese in Egypt should treat the COVID-19 pandemic correctly from the psychological perspective, maintain proper exercises, enhance immunity, and achieve scientific prevention and control. As for those already infected, they should receive treatment actively and monitor changes of the condition closely. Everyone should keep in mind the concept of “scientific protection and relative safety.” At last, Luo wished good health to overseas compatriots, staff of the Embassy and consulates.

Since 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt has conducted many COVID-19 pandemic themed exchange activities with WCH, and established a remote consultation mechanism for severe COVID-19 patients. This lecture marked the third interaction on COVID-19 co-organized by the two institutions.
