On October 31, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences released the 2020 comprehensive STEM (Science and Technology Evaluation Matrics) ranking of Chinese hospitals and 31 discipline rankings. The ranking covered 1,634 tertiary hospitals across the country. West China Hospital once again ranked first in the 2020 "Comprehensive Ranking List" for eight consecutive years; in the "Discipline Ranking List", WCH’s disciplines such as Anesthesiology, Urology, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, and Nursing Ranked First, Thoracic Surgery, Critical Care Medicine ranks second, Respirology, Nephrology, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, Oncology, General Surgery, and Neurology rank third. The top three disciplines have increased from 9 in 2019 to 13. Among them, the No.1 subject has increased by one, No.2 has increased by one, and the third-ranked subject has increased by 2. 

The top three Chinese hospitals in terms of STEM in 2020 are West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Peking Union Medical College Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University.
